Our Rotary International (RI) President for 2010-2011 is Ray Klinginsmith. His theme for the 2010-2011 Rotary Year is “Building Communities – Bridging Continents”. The Rotary Club of Seguin has done both of those things very well since its founding on March 10, 1933. President Klinginsmith spoke at the close of the RI convention in Montreal, Canada in June 2010. In his speech he asked Rotarians to apply “cowboy logic” and make Rotary Clubs “bigger, better, and bolder.” The fundamental principles of cowboy logic he said, are taking pride in your work, talking less and saying more, doing what has to be done, and remembering that some things are not for sale.
In the city where the Annual Cowboy Roundup has become bigger, better and bolder each year it’s fitting for our club to also take on that logic. This coming year, we will strive together to become bigger, better, and bolder in all we think, say and do. A few weeks ago I jotted something done as I thought about our club and Rotary International. “Rotary is more than a club, it’s a living organism whose humanitarian efforts continue to grow and reach out to more people in need each year.” That’s what we will do as a Club; continue to reach out to our community and beyond, "Building Communities and Bridging Continents".
I want to share something with you that was referenced on the Rotary Global History Fellowship website by Louis Piconi a past RI Vice President and Trustee of the Rotary Foundation. It is a poem whose author is unknown:
God has given me a place on earth to be here for a while
I hope that as I’m passing through I will make somebody smile
I want to make life easier for all those I meet
I ask God for His blessings to the strangers on the street
I hope I’ll never fail a child if I can help somehow
I want to be as generous as my resources will allow
And when my life on earth is done, it will be my final plea
Let someone somewhere think or say
“You made a difference to me.”
Let’s make a difference together Rotary Club of Seguin as we apply the heart of Rotary, the Four Way Test to every area of our individual lives and the life of our Club. And may we work together to see the “cowboy logic” of becoming “bigger, better, and bolder” take place in our Club during the 2010-2011 Rotary Year.
Thank you very much for visiting our site.
Sincerely,
Pastor Jim Price
